Sudan (Darfur)
Since 2003, a violent civil conflict has led to countless deaths and widespread displacement, interrupting education for thousands of children. More than 1 million of those displaced by the conflict are children under the age of 18.More than 100,000 school-aged children have fled to refugee camps in Chad and at least 15,000 primary school-aged children living in these camps are not in school. Within Sudan, only one out of every 100 girls in southern Sudan will likely complete primary school. Schools lack basic supplies, including desks, chairs, and textbooks. Our partners are using education to provide hope, protect vulnerable children from exploitation and military recruitment, and ease the return home and the reconciliation process.
