EPCC at the CGI Annual Meeting
One year ago, the Education Partnership for Children in Conflict was launched at the Clinton Global Initiative with the goal of funding new education projects for children in conflict, post conflict, refugee and emergency situations. EPCC started with eighteen commitments reaching the world's most vulnerable children from Iraq to Columbia to Northern Uganda to Afghanistan to Darfur. From September 24-26th, at this year's Clinton Global Initiative, our partners will share with us the progress they've made and many will pledge to do even more. The momentum from last year has led to new partnerships and commitments that will be announced at the Annual Meeting and aim to educate children affected by some of the worst misfortunes due to conflict.
As we gather together in New York City, relief efforts will be running at full tilt in Haiti to provide immediate assistance to its citizens devastated by the recent storms. More than 150,000 people have been left homeless and 800,000 people are in urgent need of humanitarian aid. Furthermore, in a country where children already face substantial barriers to education, the hurricanes that have hit Haiti over the past few weeks have created even greater obstacles to schooling. Approximately 500,000 children attending 1,000 schools throughout the country (particularly in the most affected areas) have been identified as those most in need of educational assistance.
President Clinton will call upon CGI Members to come together to not only help Haiti recover from the recent hurricanes, but to build it back stronger and better than ever before. You can help to "Build Back Better" by contributing to EPCC partners working in Haiti to be a key part of making that happen. Donate to Rebuild Haiti»
