In over 20 countries, our partners are working to help kids affected by violence, conflict, and natural disaster to return to school, regain a sense of normalcy, and rebuild their lives and nations. Find out more by clicking on the map.
Darfur
Since 2003, a violent civil war has led to countless deaths and 2.5 million to 3.5 million people displaced. With 4 million people are heavily dependent on humanitarian aid, more than 1 million children under the age of 18, education has been interupted for thousands.

Partners are building schools in Sudan for children affected by the Darfur crisis and working in twelve refugee camps in Chad to provide safe learning environments.

Iraq
Over 4 million people are displaced by the Iraqi conflict and about 50% are children. Millions more live inside the war zone with little or no chance to go to school.

Partner Response
Partners are working in Iraq to rebuild and refurbish schools. They are also helping refugee children in neighboring countries go to school by building new schools to accommodate the Iraqi students and by providing much needed supplies, teachers, and counseling.

Haiti
Decades of internal conflict have left Haiti the poorest country in the western hemisphere. Only 65% of primary school-aged children are enrolled in school and only 2% of kids enrolled in high school will complete all 12 years of schooling.

New Orleans
In 2005 Hurricane Katrina ripped through New Orleans and displaced over 1 million people. 110 out of 126 public schools were completely destroyed. School systems were devastated and are still recovering, as are at least 400,000 displaced children.

Our partners are rebuilding the school system, providing summer programs, career opportunities, and bringing the arts to schools to rebuild education and hope in New Orleans.

Iraq: The International Rescue Committee is rebuilding schools. UNHCR/Ninemillion is providing supplies for Iraqi refugee children. Other partners are supporting families and helping kids to learn.
Sudan (Darfur): The Valentino Achak Deng Foundation is building a new school and UNHCR/Ninemillion is working to help educate the refugees in twelve camps in Chad.
Haiti: HELP is finding the best and brightest students in Haiti and giving them a chance to go to college. Concern Worldwide is building and refurbishing schools to give children the chance to learn.
New Orleans: New Orleans Outreach is helping children in poverty to get the support they need. SummerBridge is providing new opportunties for the children of New Orleans over the summer and KidsmART is bringing the arts back into the school system.
